Visiting Students - EUR 1500,00; Fee waivers may apply in the case of student exchange schemes like Erasmus; Students wishing to do a single course unit from an Exchange Package can opt to apply for “isolated course units” where the fees range from €40,00 - €60.00 per ECTS credit, depending on subject area.

The Courses

Mathematical Programming - 6 ECTS

It is intended that students acquire the basic techniques of modelling and solving problems that conceptually identify with the non-linear optimization. In particular, students should be able to identify and classify a given problem, study the conditions that guarantee the optimality of a feasible solution and apply the theory of optimization to choose the most appropriate method of resolution. In the final phase of resolving the problem, students should be able to make the study of complexity and convergence of the method chosen to analyze and carry out the post – optimal analysis.

Mathematics Computational - 8 ECTS

The main objective is to introduce students to common techniques in Computational Mathematics for developing an adequate method to solve a practical problem, starting from a mathematical model until a numerical solution is obtained, passing by the study of its convergence and by a computational implementation.

Stochastic Processes And Queues - 8 ECTS

It is intended that the students:

- Acquire basic and fundamental training of stochastic processes, specially concerning main classes of stochastic processes used to model real problems.

- Apply the knowledge to model and analyze random time-dependent phenomena.

- Develop the ability to use statistical software (like R) exploring its potential for stochastic simulation.

Integer Programming And Combinatorial Optimization - 8 ECTS

This course aims to identify and model real problems using mixed integer linear programming. Ability to solve combinatorial optimization problems using adequate techniques. Ability to analyse and interpret the corresponding outputs.

How to apply

Application procedure is similar to mobility applications, that is, candidates are either appointed by their institutions of origin or the candidate addresses directly the International Office that guides the candidate and contacts the candidate’s institution of origin. Application may be done on paper, by post and by email and is checked by the International Office.
