Academic writing is the fourth out of four courses on transferable skills recommended by EU Principles for Innovative Training’ transferable skills (European Commission, 2011). These include understanding the conventions of academic writing in English and applying critical thinking to reading, writing, and speaking about research. The students will also become familiar with the importance of assessing their communication situation according to audience, topic, purpose, writer, and context for the purpose of academic writing. Tasks take the approach of challenge-based learning (engage, investigate, act) and ask students to engage with course material interactively in small groups and on a Moodle forum.

The course will be carried out on Moodle (there are no scheduled lectures). Course material and accompanying videos will be available on Moodle, and students will be asked to schedule two small-group meetings in Zoom. Students should therefore have access to a computer with camera and microphone. Students can schedule these meetings according to their own timetable. The instructor will hold office hours in Zoom every week.
Will be based on the students participation in all the group meetings and on the submission and evaluation of all the required tasks, according to the instructions to be provided.
