University and Town
Aalborg is a lively city, buzzing with activity day and night, summer and winter. This is a city where anything can happen. With its 160,000 inhabitants, Aalborg is the fourth largest city in Denmark. Aalborg University, inaugurated in 1974, has more than 12,000 registered students and 2,000 staff and is situated in the south-eastern part of the city approx. 5 km from the city centre.

Faculties and Departments
Aalborg University consists of three faculties: The Faculty of Technology and Sciences, The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities.

Programmes Taught in English

Academic Calendar
The autumn semester runs from 1 September until the end of January. Exams take place in January. The spring semester runs from 1 February until the end of June. Exams take place in June. Lectures and seminars usually take place in the beginning of the semester (first 8-10 weeks) leaving more time to concentrate on project work later in the semester.

Application
The application form and further information are available from the homepage of the International Office, mentioned above. Application deadlines are June 1st for the Autumn Semester, November 1st for the Spring Semester.

Accommodation/Cost of Living
As a rule, The International Accommodation Office (IAO) at Aalborg University helps to accommodate foreign students. The IAO administrates a number of rooms especially available for foreign exchange students and some for master students. Students can apply for Halls of Residence or private accommodation. Costs like transportation, rent, laundry, food, books and study materials, social life, trips etc. you will need around 650 Euro pr. month to live in Aalborg.

A unique University Concept
Breaking away from the traditional university concept, Aalborg University has a profile very much of its own. The key concept in both research and teaching is: interdisciplinarity, problem-centred and project-organised studies, and interaction of theory and practice though close co-operation with institutions and companies outside the University. This study form makes the students capable of acting as brilliant problem-solvers in a dynamic world where decisions must be made rapidly.

Student Life
As a special service, welcome receptions, local excursions as well as other social activities are organised for new students. An introduction course takes place prior to the Fall semester start. Furthermore, Aalborg has a rich cultural life including a zoo, theatres, cinemas, museums, shopping centres, department stores, many good pubs and night clubs, outdoor concerts, the Aalborg Carnival in May (the largest in Northern Europe) and various other cultural activities.
